As I have mentioned before I’m spending a bunch of time on my bikes these days. I picked up a little too much winter weight and I also enjoy the solitude that comes with riding. This weekend I got in a nice ride on Sunday that took me towards the local mall. I managed to take my first fall on my new clipless pedals in the parking lot when I had to stop and wasn’t out of the pedals. My chain then came off after I got going again. After a couple of minutes of swearing the chain was back on and my hands were greasy. On the way home I rode through a park looking for water since I had run out of my homemade gatoraide replacement drink (32 oz. water, 4 tablespoons sugar, 3/8 teaspoon Morton Light Salt, 6 tablespoons of Lemon Juice). I didn’t find any water but ran into a couple who looked like they were touring on their bikes. I guess in a sense they were since they were homeless. Thankfully they were using their bikes to get from shelter to shelter depending on the day of the week. It’s a shame that the homeless situation persists in this country. These were people who came off as the type of people who didn’t want to be homeless and were trying like hell to make their lives better. If I didn’t feel for their situation I would question what kind of a person I have become.
