Ron Santo

How do you not elect Ron Santo to the Hall of Fame?

The Hall of Fame needs to revise the way that the Veterans Committee operates. Throw out the 75% rule and vote every year. The top vote getter should get in. Let another group vote for the execs. I can’t believe that Whitey Herzog isn’t in the Hall of Fame either . . . and I’m a cubs fan.

@recurring

I’ve started to use the new context called @recurring within Outlook. I think this context would work reasonably well in my paper system as well. The thing I like about @recurring in outlook is that it segments my recurring tasks so I don’t have to view them in the @office or @computer category.

Watches and the art of time

I like watches. I also like fountain pens. Apparently they go hand in hand. For years I have worn a wonderful Glycine automatic from the 1960’s that belonged to my Grandfather. Somewhere along the line I realized that a gold watch doesn’t go with everything and so the decent into the slippery slope of a watch collection began. I have generally preferred simple vintage automatics. I didn’t need the complications of complications (such as sub second dials and chronographs). Lately I’ve had the bug for diver watches – not that I will actually dive with them. I picked up an Invicta 8926 and my wife purchased for me a Seiko Orange Monster. I’ve also picked up some more vintage stuff from eBay. At last count I’m easily over 15 watches. I even picked up an Omega automatic from the late 1960’s – one of my grail watches. The problem is that it takes regular maintenance for all of these wonderful mechanical marvels and they don’t keep particularly accurate time. My quandary remains how to get a watch that I enjoy that keeps great time yet fulfills my inner watch snob while not breaking the bank.
